Batik-Diplomacy

(A)Project Overview

1. Summary of Our Project:

There are many cultures come to Indonesia everyday. That new culture can be from west, china, or anywhere. Some of those cultures made us forget our own cultures. That's why many people don't know well or maybe don't like their origin culture. It is so regretful to know it. Why we don't make them come to love their culture again? So we come and make this web for it.

"Batik" is one of the old culture which some people forget it. Now there are some countries which want to recognize that Batik was from their country. We think it can be happened because we didn't respect it before. So we realize our opinion in this web. We hope this web can make a change although just a little. We think it will be great if all of the people love their own nation.

2. Description of Our Team:

1. Rifki

He is the coordinator of this team. He is our Web Master too. He is very good to coordinate our team. Because of him, our team become a disciplines team and be a very good team. He really interest with this project because he really love their own culture.

2. Hesti

She is an enjoy girl. She always give us a spirit to do this project. She makes all of us do our project enjoy and fun. She is a very good girl. She is a very good searcher too. When we need some article, she will give us very fast and give a better article so when we read that article we'll very interest with that article. She is a sociality girl. When our feel is bad and don't want do that project again, she'll talk to us and give our spirit grow up again. Her hobby is singing. Her dream in the future is be a doctor.

3. Ramadantiya

He is a very good man for searching data. His ideas are very interesting and make we all like our project. He is a hard worker. He good at making some article. He join this project because he want to know more about his own traditional culture.

4. Ohsy

When we need some articles she will give us better articles. Her design web It’s interesting, good, and fantastic. She crazy about photograph and editing photo. She wants to collect the photo about her culture. That why she join this project.

4. Problems We Had to Overcome:

(a) Chosing the theme

It make us to confuse for choosing the best theme for this project. After we asking and find some references, we choose “ Batik diplomacy” as the theme. Why choose Batik? All of us interest about our traditional culture. And we would to tell to people that Batik is original culture from Indonesia. We see that a culture which important for our next generation. Although Indonesia as our country is rich about cultures, so we must keep it. Some of people in here (Indonesia) didn't know about their culture. So remorse if we can't save our culture which it from the ancestors. We think that the best theme.

(b) Managing Time

Each of us had different busy activities. Actually because we just still in high school, we have different organization and we need to study a lot too. So it so confuse to choose the time to do this project. After discussion with our teacher, we make a schedule to do this project. We think that managing time is the most important things for the best product we can do. We manage time for study and holidays too. It so be effective. We were lucky because we are classmates. We can always talk about this project every time. But sometimes we must be connected to internet to search any references together in different place. That not impossible because each of us can connect to internet in our home

It not easy to discussed this project with them. We didn't live in capital city. We just can get a little information from here. We were always tried to have a contact with the government. But we can't. So we try to go to every museum in our city. Actually although our city is not a capital city, but "Batik" was originate from here. So it possible to got some information about Batik.

5. Our Project Sound Bite:

We've going to all of the museum in our city. And we believe this topic is really important for us to know. Government must know and make some change for our country.

6. How did our activities and research for this Doors to Diplomacy project support content standards, required coursework and curriculum requirements?

Our topic was about arty and culture. That make us know more about own culture well. We try to make adolescents love their culture. Our curriculum was not give us about our own traditional culture. We never learn like how to make Batik or etc. That really great when we try for learn it. So we give the information about our traditional culture by this web.

2. In what ways did our students act as “ambassadors” and spokespersons for our Doors to Diplomacy project both on-line and in person.

Firstly we came to “Ulen Sentalu”. Ulen Sentalu is the center of museum which showed about batik mostly in our city. We asked many things about Batik and they answered completely. And they really appreciated and give support to us. It gave us help very much. Then we told to them about our web and they very interested. They said they will help us as possible as they can and they will give us support. We asked some of things we need about Batik.

From the references we knew that there are many kinds of meaning that include inside Batik. Because it was so interested to learn about how to make it and what they want after made Batik. We discus about “batik is origin from Indonesia” not from other country in this project. It so regret because many adolescents wasn’t know their interest culture. That a kind of traditional culture from our ancestors. We hope government took fast action to handle this problem.

As ambassadors we have introduced batik to other student in our school by made article in school magazine. We told them about batik problem and after they read it, they started to respect and participated to conserve it. Meanwhile in other school we introduced it by gave a presentation. After the presentation, we made a discussion about it, from this discussion they finally knew that there are many problem of Batik.

3. What has been or will be the impact of our project on our community?

In this web we can know how important culture Indonesia to be preserved. For example batik, batik is one of culture of Indonesia which there since long time. Batik also is one of state asset. In java batik becomes symbol for public. Ahead batik is cloth applied in Kraton (King’s place) by the sultans in java. Up to now in Kraton also batik has is a real cloth in admiring by people. And through this web also we wish to awake public if the batik most importance for Indonesia. Because with existence of possible batik of culture in Indonesia can be upraised and can in approach by world is not only looked into one eye only. As well as can give value is more. Side that is possible from some world clefts something interests with batik Indonesia. There by possible culture we can awake and still be looked after. And with this web also we can understand how the importance of a culture in a state. There for all people must be known about state condition.

4. How did our project involve other members of our community as helpers and volunteers?

By doing this project, we involve some people such as our family, friends and teachers. We would like to say a lot of thanks for all of them, because they already gave us a lot of help. Without them, maybe our website didn’t finish as well as possible. The first is our family especially our parents. They help us by gave some information, support and provided the facilities like: internet connection, software etc. After that, we involve our friend by told to them about this project. They looked interested with this project and they start to help us by gave some information that they knew. They help us search some data for article too. Then our teacher, they gave us some help like gave some information.

Beside that, they also gave us some advices for our website and sometimes they gave us permit to left school to do the research. We were so lucky had a kind and congeniality teacher like them. We also involve some people from museum of batik in Yogyakarta. We told about it and they interested. They gave us a lot of information about batik and they gave their support. We were so lucky met kind people like that.

5. Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises

Actually we have got many lessons from this web. Because by doing this web same we study returns to culture it self which have been long enough in leaving. Like batik itself, possibly with existence of this web many publics which aware of the importance of batik. If also for example many publics forgetting batik it is possible that batik will disappear as will as we can pass an opinion to many people about culture Indonesia.

Possibly with our opinion many people which more interest about culture. But quite a few between them which only understand is just and do not make something to culture. And for our team, this project a really important. Because every one of us also aware of the importance of batik. Because by using our batik the same like the sultans in Kraton. Because in java batik only be applied by the nobility like sultan (King of that place called).
