FAO

Food and Agriculture (FAO) is United Nation world wide organization which is competent in food and agriculture sector. It was funded in 16 th October 1945 . FAO leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Since its inception, FAO has worked to alleviate poverty and hunger by promoting agricultural development, improved nutrition and the pursuit of food security. FAO helps developing countries and countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices and ensure good nutrition for all. It work focused on developing rural areas, home to 70 percent of the world's poor and hungry people.

FAO is active in land and water development, plant and animal production, forestry, fisheries, economic and social policy, investment, nutrition, food standards and commodities and trade. it also plays a major role in dealing with food and agricultural emergencies

The basic functions of FAO concern the development of agricultural production, the training of farmers, the development of women in rural areas, the development of the fisheries sector, and environmental protection through reforestation.

FAO is composed of eight departments: Agriculture and Consumer Protection ; Economic and Social Development ; Fisheries and Aquaculture ; Forestry ; Human, Financial and Physical Resources; Knowledge and Communication; Natural Resources Management and Environment and Technical Cooperation .
