WHO

World Health Organization (WHO) is a United Nation worldwide organization which directs and coordinates authorities for health, funded on 7 April 1948 . Nowadays, we celebrate this date every year as World Health Day. Also proposes conventions, agreements, regulations and makes recommendations about international nomenclature of diseases, causes of death and public health practices. It develops, establishes and promotes international standards concerning foods and biological, pharmaceutical and similar substances. WHO core functions in public health are:

WHO has headquarters in Geneva , Switzerland . It is spread in 147 countries in six regional offices. The Director-General of WHO is Dr Margaret Chan. Dr Anarfi Asamoa-Baah as the Deputy Director-General.

WHO sponsors programs to monitor outbreaks of infectious diseases, such as SARS, malaria, AIDS and also sponsors programs to prevent and treat diseases. Who supports the development and distribution of save and effective vaccines, pharmaceutical diagnostics, and drugs.

The WHO is nearing success in developing vaccines against malaria and schistosomiasis and aims to eradicate polio within the next few years. The organization has already endorsed the world's first official HIV/AIDS Toolkit for Zimbabwe (from October 3 , 2006 ), making it an international standard.
