Where and When ?

To find gamelan, it's not hard. It almost exist in Yogyakarta and Central Java. Specificly, it can be found in Karatons, market, villages, and hotel's lobby. About when we can see the gamelan playing, it's more familiar in a cultural activities in Java. Such as wayang kulit (leather puppets) performance,Javanese dances, and ketoprak. While the wiyagas play gamelan activities, the gamelan music is usually fused with a singer who sings a Javanese song. The singer is called ‘pesinden' and usually female. Pesinden has a special voice to sing a Javanese song. Person who wants to be a pesinden must learn with a different vocal technique.
